According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. when Blankenship was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of U.S. Route 30. Investigators said his vehicle first collided head-on with a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old woman from Canton. Following that collision, authorities said his vehicle continued traveling in the wrong direction before striking a second vehicle.
Emergency personnel responded immediately and transported Blankenship to Aultman Hospital, where he later passed away from the injuries he sustained. Troopers reported that the woman involved in the first crash suffered serious injuries but is expected to recover. The driver of the second vehicle was unharmed.
