With profound sadness and heavy hearts, family, friends, teammates, and members of the Bowling Green community are remembering Dartel Long Jr., 20, whose life ended following a tragic drowning incident at Nolin Lake in Edmonson County, Kentucky, on Sunday, July 19.
According to the Edmonson County Coroner’s Office, Dartel, a Bowling Green resident and 2024 graduate of Greenwood High School, was identified as the victim of the reported drowning. Emergency personnel responded around dusk to Juniper Lane off Dickeys Mill Road at Nolin Lake after receiving a report of the incident.
Despite the efforts of first responders, Dartel sadly did not survive. Authorities said no foul play is suspected, and further details surrounding the circumstances of the drowning have not been released. Dartel’s passing has left a deep sense of sorrow throughout the Greenwood High School community, where he was known as a dedicated student-athlete and a valued member of the school’s football and track programs. Friends, teammates, coaches, and classmates are remembering the young man he was and the positive impact he made during his time with them.
