With profound sadness, we remember and honor the life of Colby Dwayne Owens, 21, whose life ended following a tragic rollover crash on Tuesday morning, July 7, 2026, on I-240 West near Amboy Road in West Asheville, North Carolina.
Colby’s passing has left family, friends, and loved ones heartbroken as they come to terms with the sudden and devastating loss of a young life taken far too soon. According to the Asheville Police Department, the crash happened around 1:11 a.m. when officers responded to a vehicle rollover collision on the interstate.
At the scene, authorities found an unoccupied 2007 Toyota Corolla and a wallet containing identification. A witness reported seeing an individual walk away from the vehicle after the crash, but officers were unable to locate anyone during their initial search of the area.
Later that morning, a pedestrian reported finding a body in dense underbrush along an embankment near Virginia Avenue. The victim was identified as Colby Dwayne Owens.
Investigators determined that Colby was traveling westbound when his vehicle struck the right guardrail. The vehicle crossed the westbound lanes, struck the left guardrail, and rolled down the embankment, causing Colby to be ejected from the vehicle.
As the investigation continues, those who knew and loved Colby are left mourning a painful loss. His memory will continue to live on through the people whose lives he touched, the moments he shared, and the love he gave to those around him.
May Colby Dwayne Owens rest in peace. His life will never be forgotten, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
