With profound sadness, family, friends, fellow officers, firefighters, and members of the Danbury community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Cooper Whiteside, 38, whose life ended following a tragic motorcycle crash on Sugar Hollow Road in Danbury early Monday morning.
Cooper’s sudden passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He was remembered as a dedicated public servant who devoted his life to protecting and helping others through his work as a police officer, firefighter, and emergency medical responder.
According to the Danbury Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. when Cooper was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Sugar Hollow Road. The motorcycle collided with a northbound Jeep Compass, resulting in a devastating loss. Cooper and his passenger, 34-year-old Brittany Islami of New Milford, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep was seriously injured and transported to a nearby hospital.
The Bridgeport Police Department confirmed Cooper’s passing, remembering him as an officer who served with honor and dignity after joining the department in July 2024. His dedication, kindness, and commitment to serving others will be deeply missed.
Cooper also spent many years with the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department, serving as a firefighter, EMT, lieutenant, training captain, and vice president. Those who worked alongside him described him as someone who touched many lives and left a lasting impact on his community.
