E’Lexus Conner Obituary, Youngstown, Ohio – Youngstown is mourning the loss of 16-year-old E’Lexus Conner, a Chaney High School student who died from injuries sustained in an early-morning crash at the intersection of Market Street and East Myrtle Avenue. Family members said Conner passed away after being hospitalized following the collision, leaving loved ones, classmates, and members of the community remembering her as an active student with dreams of serving others.
Conner was one of four people hospitalized after the crash, which occurred around 3 a.m. Sunday. According to police, the vehicle carrying the four occupants was traveling north on Market Street when it collided with another vehicle, spun around, and struck a utility pole. Authorities said two of the other people injured in the crash remained in critical condition.
Family members described E’Lexus as a young woman who was deeply involved in her school and community. Her mother, Yolanda Driver, said her daughter participated in Harambee and had aspirations of becoming a police officer in the future. She was also known for her interest in the television show “Law & Order,” reflecting her passion for a career in law enforcement.
Beyond her academic life, E’Lexus was remembered as someone who was engaged in activities and surrounded by family and friends who supported her goals. Those close to her said she and her sister, En’Dia Conner, were active in school programs and athletics.
The crash has left E’Lexus’ family seeking answers. Her parents, Emmett Conner and Yolanda Driver, returned to the accident scene Monday morning with relatives and friends to clean broken glass from the sidewalk and remove stains left behind from the collision. Emmett Conner said he was upset that the area had not been cleaned and did not want others driving through the intersection to see reminders of the tragedy.
“We want answers,” Emmett Conner said. “We want the people who were involved to be transparent.”
Police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including concerns raised by the family about possible street racing or speeding. Lt. Robert Gentile, head of the Youngstown Police Department’s Traffic Bureau, said investigators are looking into those possibilities.
E’Lexus’ sister, 18-year-old En’Dia Conner, was also injured in the crash and remains under treatment at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Family members said En’Dia recently graduated from Choffin and Chaney, where she played volleyball, basketball, and ran track for the Cowboys. She had begun her studies at Youngstown State University with plans to pursue journalism.
