According to the Castro County Sheriff’s Office, authorities responded on the evening of Monday, July 6, 2026, to the area of Avenue B and JD Street near Hart following reports of a disturbance and a man found injured.
When a deputy arrived, they discovered Dereck outside a residence suffering from apparent wounds. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment, but despite medical efforts, he later died from his injuries.
Following the investigation, authorities identified individuals believed to be connected to the incident. The Castro County Sheriff’s Office announced that William Quintero Zuniga, 25, of Hart, was arrested and charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence. Brayan Quintero Trejo, 23, of Hart, was also arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence. Both individuals were booked into the Castro County Jail as the investigation continues.
