James Mahon Obituary, JACKSON TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA — James J. “Jimmy” Mahon V, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and independent contractor known for his generous spirit and passion for travel, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the age of 42. His passing has left family, friends, and the Jackson Township community mourning the loss of a man remembered for his kindness, compassion, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Jimmy was the son of James J. Mahon IV and Colleen (Kerdesky) Mahon of Jackson Township. A graduate of Lake-Lehman High School, he later attended Wilkes College before building a career as an independent contractor. His work took him throughout the Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New Jersey regions, where he was affiliated with Local 19 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) in Baltimore. He had also recently begun working with the local chapter in Wilkes-Barre.
Jimmy was widely known for his selfless nature and willingness to help others. Family members described him as a loving and giving person who always placed the needs of his loved ones before his own. Outside of work, he enjoyed playing disc golf and exploring the world. His travels took him across the United States as well as to Ireland, Iceland, Peru, Poland, Russia, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, and Turkey, reflecting his adventurous spirit and appreciation for different cultures.
He also had a deep appreciation for history, the arts, and his family’s coal-mining heritage. Whenever he returned to Pennsylvania, Jimmy cherished spending time in Jim Thorpe, a place that held special meaning for him. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews, who affectionately knew him as “Uncle Jimmy.”
Jimmy was preceded in death by his grandfather, James J. Mahon III, and his grandmother, Joyce Ann Kerdesky. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandmother, Anna Magill; grandfather, Peter Kerdesky; sisters, Colleen Moyer and her husband, Stephen, and Joscelyn Summa and her husband, Scott; as well as his cherished nieces and nephews, Samuel, Maia, Isla, Chloe, and Sawyer. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends whose lives were touched by his generosity and accepting heart.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc. in Shavertown. A private Mass will be celebrated at the convenience of the family, while a public celebration of Jimmy’s life will be announced at a later date. His family has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the many friends who loved him for exactly who he was and supported him throughout his life.
James J. “Jimmy” Mahon V will be remembered for his compassionate heart, adventurous spirit, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
