Richard Hozjan Obituary, PIMA COUNTY, ARIZ. — Authorities are investigating the deaths of two people found inside a residence in the northwest Tucson area after what investigators believe was an apparent murder-suicide.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a home near the intersection of Ina and Oldfather roads on Tuesday, July 7, after a concerned neighbor contacted law enforcement about a disturbing note left at their residence. Investigators said the note, allegedly written by 64-year-old Richard M. Hozjan, stated that he had killed his wife and intended to take his own life.
Deputies arrived at the residence and attempted to make contact with anyone inside, but received no response. After repeated attempts were unsuccessful, officers entered the home to conduct a welfare check. Inside, they discovered Richard Hozjan and 43-year-old Gail Hozjan deceased from gunshot wounds.
Authorities said Richard Hozjan appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, while Gail Hozjan was found elsewhere inside the residence with a gunshot wound. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Following an initial review of the evidence, investigators said the circumstances are consistent with an apparent murder-suicide.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department emphasized that the investigation remains active as detectives continue processing evidence, conducting interviews, and working to establish a complete timeline of the events. Officials have not released a possible motive and have not disclosed whether there were any prior law enforcement interactions involving the residence.
